Yeah it’s a MAJOR oversight on apples part. Phone’s definitely should Not broadcast audio or video without user permission.

I’m on my 3rd iPhone model and have never used FaceTime, but I disabled it when I read about this bug earlier today.

Unfortunately the problem is only going to get worse as technology improves. Good thing I’m not a criminal it would be too stressful especially knowing all the ways that you could be monitored.

I’ve been hearing about this bug - it’s terrifying to think about. I’ll be keeping Facetime disabled until this is fixed. Glad the news is being spread around though!

Runs and calls the hubby :stuck_out_tongue: Wow, that’s scary. iPhones have FaceTime? JK. I think I’ve only used it once in all the years that FaceTime has been out and that was just to see what the hoopla was all about.

Can’t say I’ve ever used it despite my past two phones being iPhones (my next is unlikely to be an iPhone for different reasons)…most likely something to do with the changes they made in iOS 12 for group FaceTime and the such…

Take care what you say on your phone. On ANY phone, not only the I phone . Because this effect is normal GSM standard…from GSM point of view: no bug, but a feature …

What I mean: first think, then speak. Do not say “now I have to call this stupid b…”
Even better: do not think it.

Either call him …
or not.

I remember my old sprint phone would do this when people called me. I could hear them clearly before choosing to answer or decline.

But the other way around? Yikes! :scream:

I remember there was a way to trick old GSM phone of the pre-smartphone era to answer a call without ringing and without the owner pressing any buttons. You could sneak-listen as long as the person didn’t use the phone and had battery - which lasted days then.

Also, before digital cellphones, with the right amateur radio equipment you could listen to random calls without any of the callers noticing. My dad was a hobbyist radioamateur when cellphones started showing in Brazil. There weren’t many cellphones that time, so you had to be patient to find the frequency, but it was rather easy.
