Every year I get to watch these guys from a local martial arts club put on a show during intermission at a local hockey game during Chinese New Year <img src="//forumus-uploads-production.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/original/3X/3/4/343c643e2389457d3d96cca9265d4384bfd10779.png" width=“620” height=“413”

jing wo lion dance

It is very entertaining, the drums, the firecrackers, wow… and I can’t believe the moves they pull off on the slippery ice surface. Thanks for this post as I feel I have learned more about the celebration in 10 minutes of reading than I have learned my whole life.
Happy Chinese New Year!!:dog:

Happy early New Years. It starts on feb.16. Vietnamese and Chinese share the same new year. As I am older, married with kids it’s not the same as when I was a child. Since I’m married, I’m the one giving out red envelopes :weary:. Chuc mung nam moi! (Happy New Years in Vietnamese)

Yes, I did some red envelopes. Only to spend it on the upcoming carnival a week later. Hahaha. Happy New Year

Nice to see you back on the thread…life must have gotten lil busy @Nhi

Happy Chinese New Years !!! :flags::wind_chime:

Xin Nian Kuai Le!!!

Happy New Year!

I went to a local Chinese New Year parade that is on as part of a local cities season of illuminations (they have various themes night during January and February)
I really enjoyed it! Lots of dragons, Chinese lions, lanterns, food and light shows. As well as various arts and craft things for the kids.
I was born in the year of the snake, which is partly why I have a snake tattoo
I’ve not went through all my pictures yet (its my birthday today so been busy celebrating that too  ) but here are a couple I like so far.

I will admit, I did have to google to find out why the Lions were being fed lettuce!

Sorry but it’s a minor pet peeve of mine when people call it Chinese New Year. Chinese aren’t the only people who celebrate it! Can you imagine how annoyed people around the world would be if everyone started calling Christmas “American Christmas”, just because America is the most “important” country which celebrates it? Please call it Lunar New Year

That’s actually a really good point - I always call it Chinese New Year since my girlfriend is from Hong Kong, but Lunar New Year makes a lot more sense. I doubt that many people would be confused by the change in terminology, so I’ll have to try to remember to say that instead. Good call!
