HDMI from dock leads to black screen on sleep

I have the Premium USB C mini dock that I use to connect an external monitor and ethernet. When my 15" 2017 MacBook Pro goes to sleep and wakes back up, the monitor driven by this HDMI doesn’t come back, it either is black or solid blue. The monitor appears to be there on the Mac, the mouse can move off and it is still detected, but there is no image. If I pull the HDMI and plug it back in, everything returns to normal. Has anyone seen this issue? Is it a MacOS issue or a problem with the Dock hardware?
