Eufy Security Cam - is it impolite?

(not asking in the Eufy forum, it’s dead)

So I have been thinking for some time to get a security camera system. There is a drug problem in the area, the odd damage to property, and so I was thinking I’d have a suppressive effect on these if there is an obvious camera.

I am not worried about crime on my property, I kept all items older / used, there’s nothing worth stealing of note. So I am purely thinking of social good.

I know the Eufy Cam can “carve” areas to not record so I can show to my neighbours I am not recording places like the inside of their properties through their window.

Does anyone have experience how neighbours feel about cameras? They like, or they don’t like?

I was thinking of this deal.

It has actually been more active than this community over the past few days… Go take a look:

Such and emotive point @professor
With the amount of CCTV cameras in the streets, I can’t see how anyone could have a problem with a potential stray domestic CCTV camera.
Don’t get me wrong, if one was pointed at my bedrooms or bathrooms I would have something to say, but not the rest of the house.
I would see it as a bit if added security for my property.

Eufycam 2 has 140deg view. It pretty much sees everything it generally points at. I asked the neighbours, some pro, some against, most neutral (no reaction).

One neighbour just suggested a fake camera, for deterrence without the impoliteness. But I.n.e.v.e.r. b.l.u.f.f.

I’ve noticed the same thing @Insider.

Possible due to the integration into the eufy security app?

Plot twist is that you already ordered the fake cameras, and posted this thread as a red herring

I don’t have the Eufy cameras but I have a different brand. There is plenty of space between me and my neighbors so I doubt they even know I have cameras.
However even if they were to complain, there isn’t much they could do about it lol

Hey, speaking of apps… When is the Anker app going to make it out of beta? It has been in beta for quite some time now!

I think @professor said that the app isn’t even available for beta anymore :flushed:

@professor, I own the first gen eufycam and I believe there is no change in terms of the settings, so I can answer your question.
You have choice of 3 stretchable rectangles to ensure cover your property or the areas you would like to cover and avoid the rest of the 140 deg point of view (including your neigbors property)
But this is only for detection to work and record/notify you about the activity.
You always see everything that your camera can see in live mode or recorded video.

I don’t remember, but I have seen another camera (eufy or other brands) that will blur the unwanted areas in cameras view.

My neighbors have never minded; many have their own. In fact, a few years ago, a neighbor had asked me if my camera caught anyone walking on the street because they thought they had a break in (turned out it was their own kids ).
I do make it a point to keep the cameras pointed on my own property.

I agree, but while we try to do that with all intentions, it might still capture a portion of neighbors property
