Perhaps they should have made it terminate instead with USB-C and the adapter then is C to Lightning and C to MicroB. Then you’d only need to guess less often?

I wonder how much this would raise the price. There would probably be a much smaller market for those c - micro adapters so higher cost, and the extra usb c ports they’d need to include in each adapter.
